Come along and learn how to grow year round vegetables designed to attract bees, butterflies and mini beasts. Farm the City is passionate about growing free organic food in the city, available to be picked by volunteers and members of the public.

The Sensory Garden was an unloved green space on the corner of Elkstone Road and Golborne Road, beside the train tracks. Over the last 18 months, we have introduced new food growing beds, a pizza oven made from clay and a medicine meadow. We will be planting a salad wall and building willow fences and a willow dome amongst other exciting green things over the coming months.

You are invited to volunteer with our trained horticulturalist Emma where you will learn what it takes to create a living space, from sowing and propagating seeds, to watering, weeding, managing pests and caring for the space to a professional standard in line with permaculture principles and some biodynamic gardening theory as well. The sessions are suitable for all levels, including absolute beginners, with a friendly and informal learning environment, so knowledge is learned gradually over a number of weeks. Just turn up for an hour if that’s all you have to spare, the more hands, the more we can make from the space.
